Developing A Healthier Outlook

Cardiac rehabilitation isn't a temporary program, it's a lifelong commitment. By working with you, our experienced staff will provide the advice and guidance necessary to help you succeed in making improved, lasting lifestyle choices.

Who Qualifies?

Cardiac rehabilitation is usually prescribed for:
Men and women who have heart desease, such as unstable angina or have had a heart attack.
People who have had coronary stents, coronary bypass, or valve surgery in the past 12 months are also eligible for cardiac rehabilitation.
Cardiac Rehabilitation is also designed to help heart transplant patients feel better and stronger, as well as prevent future heart problems.

Part of a Team
With the ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and Borgess Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, you'll have access to several health care professionals and services. By working with you and your personal physician, our team will design a program to fit your individual needs.

How It Works
Depending on your condition, outpatient visits at the ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital will normally be scheduled three times a week for about one hour. Our cardiac rehabilitation program has two major components:
Exercise training using state-of-the-art equipment to help you exercise safely, strengthen your muscles and imporove overall stamina. Your exercise plan will be tailored to meet your specific abilities, needs and interests.
Education, counseling and training to help you recognize your heart condition and find ways to reduce the risk of developing future heart problems. The cardiac rehabilitation team also teaches you how to adjust to new lifestyle choices, such as quitting smoking and maintaining a heart-healthy diet.

Though rehabilitation often takes place in groups, your plan will be based on your specific risk factors and specialized requirements.

Reaping The Many Benefits

To help you set and achieve your individual rehabilitation goals, our team will look at your general health, personal heart problem, risks for the future, health care provider's recommendations and your preferences. In addition to increasing your energy level and heart health, cardiac rehabilitation has other persaonal benefits including:
A healthy diet not only lowers your blood cholosterol, blood pressure and controls weight, but also helps prevent additional diseases like diabetes and even some forms of cancer.
Quitting smoking decreases the risk of heart disease, and your risk of developing lung caner, emphysema and bronchitis.
